PARTS & SERVICE BULLETIN

LONG TERM STORAGE OF PUMPS & MOTORS

Introduction:

Instruction for Long Term Storage of Pumps & Motors

Problem:

When storing Hydraulic Pumps & Motors for long periods the internal components suffer from Brinelling. Brinelling occurs when two hardened surfaces have insufficient lubrication between them and no motion for extended periods, the Brinelling introduces corrosion and breakdown of the hardened surface.

Solution:

Rotate Pump and/or Motor shaft every 60 days this will keep internal components from developing flat spot and or corrosion while keeping mechanical seals from sticking. Ensure pump and or motor is completely sealed using correct plugs/plates. Fill pump and or motor with mineral oil containing 2-3% rust preventive concentrate.

DUAL CYLINDER PIPE SUPPORT UPDATES

OEM design (single cylinder Pipe support) failed early due to twisting of the support bracket.
Picture below: Pipe positioner located in the mast
Twisting was observed on several machines across various sites with the OEM design installed.

Brief study was conducted to improve upon the OEM design.

This give rise to a dual support pipe positioner featuring dual cylinders and a custom designed base plate.

The update involved modification to the hydraulic circuit to implement dual cylinders successfully.

Prototype units were produced and trialled in service for several months. The latest update involves minor improvements on the design to increase reliability.

Summary of the physical updates :

  • Roll Pin keeper plates
  • Slotted Sensor bracket
  • Main Arm pivot bush & retainer (5/8In UNC) – to replace the shoulder bolts, retained with Hex-head bolt and nyloc nut
